Bend sofa by B&B Italia

Patricia Urquiola's has designed a surprising series of seats that transforms the tradition concept of the sofa. She has entitled the product Bend upholstery sofa due to its curvaceous albeit monolithic form. It gives the appearance of being manually moulded from a supple material as if by a sculptor.
In practice, it issues from a study of 3-D models and digital research. Bend upholstery sofa effectively conveys the idea of motion by alternating full and empty spaces. Contrasting seams add to the intrinsic design on the surface.
The backrest is irregularly shaped, but without compromising comfort. Curved modules - assembled starting with the seats, ottoman and corner elements - form a sofa that breaks out of the usual visual schemes and differentiates from other contemporary pieces on account of its calculated eccentricity. Bend upholstery sofa offers flexible composition solutions, including small linear versions, corner solutions or a spectacular (non necessarily domestic) version that can fill a space with double-sided seating arrangements, becoming the absolute centre of attention with its iconic presence.

Series composed of two and three seats designer sofa and modular elements. The new sofa designed by Francesco Rota for Paola Lenti has reduced dimensions, nonetheless it offers excellent comfort. The backrest structure is made of spring steel which adapts to the body allowing for a particular support ease. Kimono designer sofa has fully removable cover available in all the fabrics in the collection.

Chicago sofa by Lammhults

Some people find this chair sensual. Probably because of those undulating curves. But when you sink into it you don’t notice much of them. Instead you’re struck by what a pleasantly cool easy chair it is, with the recesses functioning as air ducts. My main aim was to experiment with the expression of backrest and seat. I did as I usually do, drew a sketch first and trotted off to the upholstery workshop. “Is it even remotely possible to make this?“ Because everything depends on the curves being distinct, if they were to flop then it would all look terrible. And in the workshop they came with their usual confident response: “We’ll give it a try.“ A friend of mine calls Chicago the “cigarette case“.

Tropicalia armchair by Moroso

The 2008 show will witness the presentation of the Tropicalia collection, the design of which starts off from the same structure as the Antibodi collection, though using weaving techniques.
The collection comprises a chaise longue, couch, ergonomic armchair, chair, outdoor bed, swinging nest….
The design envisages a tubular steel structure with complex geometrical shapes, embellished with a clever weft of threads that alternate solids and voids to a specific pattern, paying meticulous attention to detail.
Each object in the collection takes on a different personality depending on the material and the colour used. It can be made playful and cheerful by using thermoplastic polymer threads free of heavy metal and recyclable, sophisticated and precious by using leather, simple and elegant by using HT polyester double plaited cords in either one or two colours.
The coloured versions are made using three threads combining different colors and creating interesting colour mixes.
